They are actually making things worse by reducing police and becoming more lenient ("prison reform"). Crime is going up, not down. If their only answer is to say, well, we tried once and failed, and now we are going to pull back all protections and let you all fight it out on the streets-- that is not a persuasive pitch to voters.
