The goal of a beginning runner should be to get to 5 days of very easy running 30min per day before adding any fast running in. If he can't sustain a 30min run right now, have run a minute easy, walk a minute briskly for 30 minutes, and as time goes by he can start decreasing the walk portion and increase the run portion. A HSer who swims and runs 150min/week can then throw in some speed work (think 200s and 400s fast on a track) but should be able to run 5:20 pretty easily[/quote]
