It's not super dense urban living like closer in, but on the flip side our house is big, we have a low mortgage, we park right in front of our house 90% of the time, we are 3 blocks from the subway, and we do have some shops and restaurants we can walk to easily and many others within a mile.

There are some people on here who will tell you about the horrors of Hill East. It is a city neighborhood with the expected crime. It has some great blocks and some bad blocks. The 1300 block of S Carolina is right by a bunch of $1m new builds where some very important politicians live. That said, Payne may not be as put together as you would like by the time your kids get to School.  Anyway, I love it here and wouldn't want to live anywhere else (well, maybe Paris). Very convenient for commuting to Annapolis.
