And why don't you try to keep up with the thread. We have moved on and are now discussing the Stanton Park/Union Station neighborhood, a neighborhood you obviously couldn't afford.

I lived in Hill East 5 years ago. I did not feel safe then and I wouldn't feel safe there now. I definitely still feel uncomfortable when we visit friends and walk back to our car at night.

I bought a place in in Hill East near the Stadium Armory metro recently. I can't recommend this area enough. It's walkable, quiet (but very close to nightlife when you want that) and you can get more house for your money than right next to Eastern Market. As far as crime, citing to a 1984 article is a joke. This neighborhood had a crime problem in the 80's and 90's, but it's not remotely like that now. In my own experience, the only time I'm careful about not walking around by myself is in the late late night, but that's just being cautious.

I bought a place in in Hill East near the Stadium Armory metro recently. I can't recommend this area enough. So here's another question about capitol hill. What do you all think of the neighborhood north of stanton park? Right near Union station? Thanks!

I do the drive out to Annapolis from time to time and I'd second the observation that the reverse commute is better than trekking into town. I do the drive all the way around 295 on many Friday evenings and it's not as bad, as, say most northern Virginia commutes, but it can be slow. 295 in bound does slow, but more around the PA ave construction, so if your hubby is getting off 295 around RFK, it should be fine.

Historic Annapolis is super charming, very walkable, very yachty, genuinely historic (I was amused that the restaurant called Treaty of Paris is called that because it's apparently where John Jay et al went to go tie one on after ratifying it in the Annapolis State House). That said, the Annapolis schools are uneven. Anne Arundel Co. schools are generally good, but some of those in the city of Annapolis aren't. So, I don't know as you'd gain much over the Capitol Hill cluster schools.

We live by Congressional Cemetery (far southern Hill East) and are actually in bounds for the Cluster schools (Peabody, Watkins, Stuart Hobson). Our kids actually go to a different Hill school, but having relatively good choices is nice. I would look around Maury (13th and Constitution) and near the Cemetery (which is also near the 2 groceries and some cafes and such). I'm home during the day and feel very safe. Our neighbors are great and range from relative newcomers to people who have loved here 50+ years. It's not super dense urban living like closer in, but on the flip side our house is big, we have a low mortgage, we park right in front of our house 90% of the time, we are 3 blocks from the subway, and we do have some shops and restaurants we can walk to easily and many others within a mile.

There are some people on here who will tell you about the horrors of Hill East. It is a city neighborhood with the expected crime. It has some great blocks and some bad blocks. The 1300 block of S Carolina is right by a bunch of $1m new builds where some very important politicians live. That said, Payne may not be as put together as you would like by the time your kids get to School. Anyway, I love it here and wouldn't want to live anywhere else (well, maybe Paris). Very convenient for commuting to Annapolis.

Most folks in Annapolis want more than just a 40 and a blunt.

Uh I know a lot of rich kids who smoke weed constantly and even a few who did heroin. If you're worried about your kids doing drugs you should worry about their rich private school friends. That's who gave my kid drugs.
