Op here, I am at 39 weeks. This may come as a suprise to you but not all decisions/desires in life are made solely based on medical reasons. We are an immigrant family and both my kids were preemies so my mom came early to support us and she has to leave next week- leaving me with no support person. Husband has no leave from work and we have no family/close friends around. I really wanted my mom to meet with the baby.
I hope it works out for you, OP. Ignore the preachy a-holes on this thread, most people I know were trying natural induction techniques once they hit 39 weeks. In fact, when I had my last baby my practice pushed hard for me to have an induction at 39 weeks, saying that it was medical best practice (ended up being a moot point, as I went into labor on my own). I would not try castor oil, but no reason not to try the other things mentioned here. Good luck to you!
When I had one of my children, I didn’t get induced till after 40 weeks. Pushing to induce at 39 makes no medical sense unless there is a medical issue. Babies are due at 40 weeks, this is nothing new.
PP here - yeah, it surprised me at the time (especially because I was only 33/not high risk or anything) and I was super anxious about what to do. My doctor kept telling me she had done a lot of reading and stayed up on latest best practice and that if I felt strongly I could go to 40 weeks before inducing, but they really recommended 39 - I was so torn, it felt weird going against medical advice but I also am not one to jump at interventions…honestly I still hadn’t quite decided what to do, but my body went into labor at 38+4 and the decision was made for me
