If she keeps bringing up her son and all his issues to OP perhaps she is asking for feedback but is afraid to be direct? OP, next time she goes on about it stop her and say. “This situation sounds frustrating. Are you asking for feedback or do you just want to vent?” And if she just wants to vent that’s the bigger issue. This isn’t a friendship.
