Totally worth it to us.  Our kids all played D3 at colleges they loved and are now either college seniors with grad school acceptances in hand, or in grad school or doing post-grad training in law and medicine.  And, BTW, we didn't mind joining with other parents to provide team dinners when the college picked up the tab for the team to fly to CA or FL for pre-season competition or NCAA tournaments.

No mandatory or expected contribution.  If you want to sponsor a team dinner you can, but we've never had any pressure to do that at all.  Most team meals have been paid for by the college, but we've also joined with other parents from our kid's class to have a "Seniors' Treat for Breakfast" or other similar meal.  [/quote]
