I use Bob's Old fashioned rolled oats. I simply follow the stove directions, but after the water has absorbed, I add 1/2 cup of milk for the calcium and protein. Additionally, while the oats are cooking, I add chia seeds, cinnamon, a pinch of nutmeg, vanilla extract, and only a small (1/2 teaspoon) of brown sugar. A pinch of cardamom and golden raisons can be nice too. If I'm going to be in a hurry I do overnight oats 1/2 cup of Bob's (as above), 1 table spoon chia seeds, covered by 1/2 cup of milk, topped with 1/2 cup of plain yogurt and a drizzle of honey. I will usually eat oatmeal with a side of berries or even put them on top. My cholesterol is increasing as I age (I'm 52), so I am really focusing on soluble fiber and limiting some bad habits. Oatmeal has become almost daily for me.
Also agree that steel cut are the best for you, but I just can't. So have compromised with the old fashioned rolled oats. You can put some ground flaxseed in as well. I sometimes do that.
