I don't see an issue with universal mail in voting.
You are not concerned about breaking the ballot chain of custody? You trust the postal service to deliver 100% of ballots on time and to the correct address? You trust that all ballots will be completed in secret? You trust that ballots can be verified without giving up the privacy of one's vote? You are an awfully trusting person.
Those two positions are totally at odds.
Disagree. Not everyone needs to vote early or by mail. Most do just fine by voting on election day. The absentee ballot option exists for those who cannot.
So who gets to decide who should be able to vote by mail? The current politicians who have an incentive to choose the population more likely to vote for them? Myopic people like you who incorrectly think that most people get voting day off? Let's just make it easier for seniors to vote by mail, because that is who you are familiar with, everyone else should be able to get to the polls, right? What about people who: - Are traveling back into town and have their flight cancelled? - Need to fly out unexpectedly after finding out a death in the family? - People who work hourly jobs and have to decide between losing income and voting? - Someone who lives in a rural area without a car who can't reliably make it into town? - Parents who have to deal with childcare because their schools are closed on Election Day? Do any of these people deserve to vote early? Can you see how once you parse it down more and more it gets harder to draw the line and just easier to let everonye vote early or by mail?
