I can't say I would begrudge someone wanting a pet and I wouldn't then try to control them by saying I won't visit them if they get it. Would you not visit your child if they bought something you didn't like? I would say in this case the MIL is whining and intolerant and I would say her reaction to someone getting a pet is ridiculous. A simpler solution would be if she is scared of the dog, it can go outside or in another room while she visits or she stays in a hotel or she doesn't have to visit, no one is forcing her to do anything.[/quote]
