OP from a reliability point of view the Audi wins. However, both cars basically after two years of service when something breaks is crazy expensive. None of these are as reliable as a Toyota or Honda. Ie Lexus is better than BMW & AUDI and Range Rovers and Mercedes etc. I have owned both BMW and Audi. Personally, we like the Audi better for driving. We love it. Again that is a personal choice. I will say I liked the BMW service significantly better. We live in MD and Rockville Audi Service is atrocious.
The Audi is a dressed up VW. Reliability is horrible. BMW is worse. The engine is full of plastic parts that break all the time. Many manufacturers use plastic in cars but do it sparingly. BMW uses a lot of plastic parts. The intake manifold of their engines is made of plastic. Mercedes is the most reliable of the 3. Most taxis in Germany are Mercedes and you'll find many with over 300k miles. It says a lot because you can't run a taxi business with unreliable cars.
