My child is 6 and I’ve never had her feet measured. When buying shoes I start with size up from where she was the last time I bought shoes and go from there. I almost exclusively order online (always somewhere that has easy returns) and never had an issue.
I am 44. I had this similar thought for years. How hard is it? Then I got a pair of Hokas and holy shit! I have been wearing the wrong shoes for like 35 years. Anyone can use a shoe measuring device but that only tell you how long your foot is. Where the comfort came for me, and apparently my kids also, is the width. Shoe train fitted my child with an extra extra wide and were able to tell me which brand carried those. I will never not go to have shoes properly fitted again.
A brannock device measures width.
