CU grad here. It’s a great school, with strong academics if you want them, and in a beautiful location. Former classmates went on to medical school (one at Harvard), working at the State Department in a very senior role, media industry execs, top 10 law schools. It really is the best of all worlds.
It seems to me it might be better for graduate school if you’re a high achieving kid? Our DC got in with a little merit, $6000/year. But that leaves it SO expensive. I can’t see how it will make sense over UMD, which seems like a more competitive, more highly ranked school with more high-stats students. And of course it will cost much less. (Some for UVA if that’s your in-state school.) If our kid gets into any more highly ranked private colleges, their online aid calculators suggest our expected contribution will be comparable to Boulder OOS. I imagine others are in the same boat. Is Boulder still appealing in such a scenario ?
