It's unclear how, but after several years of an incident that you yourself describe as "dumb and hurtful" -- as opposed to something criminal or truly zero-tolerance where you'd expect other people to take your side -- you need to stop bringing other people into it. It sounds like what you may be doing is refusing to attend events where this person is, or pressuring third parties into not inviting this person. You need to cut that out.
