It's typically middle- to upper-middle class folks who have the "cringe" reaction -- it helps to police/gatekeep their class position, and it fits with aspirational stereotypes about the upper classes (who in fact don't necessarily care, because their class position is secure, and the middle class gatekeep for them.)
