This is exactly why I declined on buying a townhouse I looked at last week in the very close vicinity to this mess. Out. Of. Control. We will stay in our apt in NORTH ARLINGTON. Thanks!
For what it's worth--we live in Green Valley--while the gunshots are of course alarming and unacceptable--it really does not travel beyond the Shelton. It is nearly insulated to the people that are hanging out there. There are parts of the neighborhood that do not even hear/know what's going on. While that doesn't mean the county doesn't absolutely need to act and get this under control, I think as long as people aren't part of the crowd right there, they don't run in to trouble with it directly if that makes sense.
so it's ok that it is happening because right now you think you are immune. And then what? When someone who lives close to you is shot, then it's a problem? I bet you don't want to be accused of being a bad liberal so you pretend like you don't care but in reality you know you blame the people who are hanging out at the The Shelton and you really don't think concentrating low income housing into one building is a good idea. But if you say that out loud then you can't put one of those yard signs up about we love everyone! But at the same time, you are ok saying, well this only happens to "those" kind of people who live in "that" type of housing. Don't you care about the families living there? The ones who can't afford anything else? The ones who have their children growing up with fear of being shot? They don't matter right? Because the violence only happens on their doorstep and you are safely cocooned.
