In our experience, NCSL D1 is slightly below EDP D3. I like NCSL and wish it were populated by better teams, but at U13 the better teams leave for ECNL-R and EDP. For example, at U13 it looks like SYC has their 1st team in MLS NEXT, 2nd team in EDP D3 and 3rd team in NCSL D1. Some of the larger clubs have their 1st team in ECNL/MLS, 2nd team ECNL-R, 3rd team in NCSL D1 and 4th team in NCSL D2. EDP D1&2 is probably on average slightly above ENCL-R and EDP D3 probably a little below.
NCSL DIV1 Current First Two Teams. They are not all the brand name, and I hear you about EDP D3, however if we are talking about competitive teams, these teams other than U13 have showed the ability to maintain at the top of the first division in their age bracket. Perhaps not all of these teams can win consistently against the top teams in ECNL/MLSNEXT, but I am certain they would compete against them. Once you step into individual players and college placement/recruitment, the resources available to clubs and to those players with connected/knowledgeable parents become more apparent.
