I don't think that any of these teams should be playing up.  In a worse tournament maybe, but in a well-attended tournament like this, FCV of any of these other teams just aren't significantly better than at least 4-5 teams in the top bracket of their own age group.  Just play that and win it if you are good enough to win it.  Otherwise, playing up just gives you an excuse if you have a poor performance.

Says the guy that will be posting on this board the week after the tournament.  "Yeah, we lost, but we played an age group up.  Our development is great and our program is great.  We are too good for our age group and we definitely would have won except that we played an age group up."[/quote]

I have no doubt that parents on this board will make this excuse. But the club not the parents decides to play teams up. I don't get why would a club choose to do this? Wouldn't it be better for the club to have teams winning and doing well in their own age group rather than a poorer performance playing up? What's the motivation?
