You all will pick apart and analyze every little thing on these boards. It’s pretty pathetic.
That is a smaller tournament, so playing up is more reasonable. Still, the 08 FCV girls beat the 08 VA Union team in the 07 final. That could have just as easily happened in the 08 bracket if those teams were able to get by MD United, VYS, and Frederick. All of whom were likely stronger than any of the other 07 teams.
Seems like playing up is a brilliant idea then. It avoids paying tournament fees to play opposing clubs you already see multiple times during the year in league play. Is your DD an 07 who didn’t get her medal because 08 teams played up an age group and competed for the championship?
FCV wouldn’t have faced any of the teams the PP mentioned in regular league play. PP said the teams in their own age group would have been more competitive. Instead they played easier competition in the 07 age group.

Are they looking to give their players a tougher game or does it give earlier exposure to college scouts?
Which teams are playing up?
Several of the FCV teams are playing up.
I wonder why Loudoun never plays up… moreover, I find it deeply concerning they usually play in lower tiered brackets than their league counterparts. Why’s that?
Because they like to win tournaments.
Unfortunately they don’t win them. FCV does. Playing up. So much for that ECNL hype…………
I don't think that any of these teams should be playing up. In a worse tournament maybe, but in a well-attended tournament like this, FCV of any of these other teams just aren't significantly better than at least 4-5 teams in the top bracket of their own age group. Just play that and win it if you are good enough to win it. Otherwise, playing up just gives you an excuse if you have a poor performance.
Sure Jan. Thanks for your mediocre mindset. No wonder you come from Loudoun.
Says the guy that will be posting on this board the week after the tournament. "Yeah, we lost, but we played an age group up. Our development is great and our program is great. We are too good for our age group and we definitely would have won except that we played an age group up."
