Does the school provide free lunch? Ours does every day - even in the summer.
If the dad is living out of the school district it's hard to see how they'd get to the school to GET the free lunch for the kid. They could save the gas money and buy food.
In the summer you can go to ANY public school that is handing out free lunch to students not enrolled in summer school. They don’t ask for proof of attendance or residency. My kids go to their or and parents and get free lunch with the neighborhood kids. They all walk over together. I called that district and asked and they said any child is eligible under 18.
The summer program is provided by the USDA. The schools are only the distribution site. Food is provided for any child 2-18 years old. Any county resident can go to the any school in the county they reside in and pick up food for the child. For the exact distribution details including which days and for how many days you can pick up for, consult the school district web-site. But, since this is a USDA program, it is open to any resident and not tied to school enrollment. There is zero excuse for a parent not to be able to provide for their child. Even if you are unemployed, you can locate the nearest USDA food distribution site, find out the pick-up information and get free food for your child.
