I wonder this too. But then again my neighbor is a SAHM and her DH is home BY 4:30 each day. I am always jealous because when he pulls up I know I've got 2 hours left. He doesn't leave that early either...around 7:30. [/quote]

Both DH and I work normal hours and live in the burbs.  We live in Loudoun County and work in Fairfax County, our commute is around 30min.  I'm home earlier than DH, and after picking the kids up at daycare pull into the driveway just before 5PM.  We both leave around the same time 7:30 (elementary here starts at 7:40) and I get into work just after 8AM.  When the kids were not in school, I did not leave the house until closer to 9, as my work is flexible and I only need to work as my work load dictates, no one watches when I come and go.

Depending on if my DH is working on proposals, often he works less then 40hrs a week.  He could support our family, but there is no way in hell we would drop down to one income in this job market, additionally, since I really only work around 35hrs a week, I have no desire to quit my job.[/quote]
