Thats a terrible way to treat your current rosters.
I actually think it's a great way - everyone gets treated the same. The alternative is to create a pecking order where some kids get told earlier than others that they have a spot, while other kids wait, knowing full well that their spot is dependent on whether some other kid from outside accepts an offer. This pecking order is not healthy for the kids or the team.
They have no idea about for their team and/or role because of the carp communication throughout the previous season. Others see them at other clubs ID because fomo and now no one knows what anyone is thinking.
My DS' club has good communication so this is not a issue.
I know coaches and clubs stunned by departures because they poorly communicated vision or just plain old bad vision and opportunities were lost because of it. Especially as kids go through growing and development stages.
Sure - but those are badly run teams or clubs by definition. If you run your club badly in other respects then you likely try and lock up your top players as quickly as possible because - otherwise they would leave - you put the club before the kids and therefore a good kid leaving is always a bad thing since it is bad for the club, even if the kid is leaving for a better opportunity. In contrast my DS' club is happy to let kids try out elsewhere and let kids leave who don't want to be there. It even helps the best kids leave for better opportunities. And note we never get given a 48 hour deadline to respond either - although there is some nudging after a couple of weeks.
