I’m an APS teacher and have my own kids in middle and high school. Both have enjoyed going back and I love being back with my students!
Mine hasn’t. HS senior send it’s a miserable experience. She’s back to virtual. ONE kid is left in hybrid out of a class of 25. Way to go APS.
Huh? APS didn’t keep those students home, thank the families. It’s very interesting how the high schools have fewer kids in person, although I’m guessing it’s because they’re not yet vaccinated and close to adult age so students/parents are more wary. In my kids MS classes, there are about 5- 10 in every class.
I would guess the kids prefer the extra sleep and comfort from being at home.
I’m a HS teacher. Some of mine say this. Some are watching siblings or working and doing DL is what helps them do that since they can basically catch up on work asynchronously if necessary. Some who deal with bullying or have anxiety just like not being in the building with peers and doing the whole school thing. Some find it easier to focus in DL. Some have parents or family with medical concerns they want to keep safe. Some have parents who won’t allow it. Some just don’t want to make an adjustment this late in the year. Some are playing sports and feel coming to school pits them more at risk of covid which would blow their season. There’s so many reasons they give for choosing DL over hybrid. And of course there are some who continue to choose DL to their own detriment and would be much much better off in person but it’s not like we can force that.
