Sports were a factor for us. There is a sense of shared responsibility on our team that has been back together since last summer. Adding in the unknowns/risks of hybrid right now puts that at jeopardy. It wasn’t the only factor, but it was something we considered.

Mine hasn’t. HS senior send it’s a miserable experience. She’s back to virtual. ONE kid is left in hybrid out of a class of 25. Way to go APS.

Huh? APS didn’t keep those students home, thank the families. It’s very interesting how the high schools have fewer kids in person, although I’m guessing it’s because they’re not yet vaccinated and close to adult age so students/parents are more wary. In my kids MS classes, there are about 5- 10 in every class.

I would guess the kids prefer the extra sleep and comfort from being at home.

I’m a HS teacher. Some of mine say this. Some are watching siblings or working and doing DL is what helps them do that since they can basically catch up on work asynchronously if necessary. Some who deal with bullying or have anxiety just like not being in the building with peers and doing the whole school thing. Some find it easier to focus in DL. Some have parents or family with medical concerns they want to keep safe. Some have parents who won’t allow it. Some just don’t want to make an adjustment this late in the year. Some are playing sports and feel coming to school pits them more at risk of covid which would blow their season. There’s so many reasons they give for choosing DL over hybrid. And of course there are some who continue to choose DL to their own detriment and would be much much better off in person but it’s not like we can force that.

NP I'm with you through all of that until the sports thing. It indeed may be one of the reasons; but I don't like that sports are ok but school isn't. What I like even less so is sports are ok to meet but regular clubs still meet virtually. All extracurriculars should be able to meet in person.

Neighbor got offered t/w slot.

Ugh. No call for us. Wonder if they are just too full.

Do not expect the bus. Messages from schools about the waitlist have been saying that all along.

I would not be surprised if that’s the catch to being allowed in off the wait list. They don’t have the time to redo bus routes or figure out what to do if a bus then goes over capacity. It will probably be you can come but have to walk or drive yourself if you do now.

Send the kids back and focus on their academic progress and social and mental well being. The school has very strict protocols and the students are wearing masks. There are no more than 9 kids per class sitting over 6 feet apart. I am not too concerned about Covid with this risk mitigation.

Right. The issue is the more and more kids you send back, the looser and looser this mitigation gets.
