Ranking are based on points obtained from doing tournaments. This is a extremely flawed way of ranking teams considering most ECNL teams don't chase tournament points. Skyline FC (SOCA) 04 girls were ranked #1 in VA and got handled by local ECNL teams. Don't put to much thought into it.
The youthsoccerrankings (the ones posted above) are not based on tournaments - they're based on all games played including league play. They're not perfect - no ranking system is - but they are way, way better than gotsoccer and others. They do still struggle to get the relative rankings of different leagues correct where there aren't too many games played teams from between the different leagues. So they used to overrank ECNL and CCL clubs wrt to the ex-DA clubs for example. So - yes - Skyline may be a little over-rated by YSR compared to some of the other clubs - but it's not completely out of line. And - from my watching games - I would say that Skyline are definitely better than plenty of ECNL clubs an a number of age groups.
Sure. But when they faced other ECNL/ GA teams they got beat up. We don’t like scrimmages on DCUM, but; when they played them thee did not do well. Will they step up and get more competitive?
For the purposes of this discussion, obviously only boys are relevant since only the boys are joining ECNL. They're a bit far way for scrimmages and I'm not aware that the NoVA clubs scrimmage them often or even at all. I'm willing to be corrected - but can you provide opponents and scores? However, they do face ECNL teams fairly regularly in tournament and showcase play, which - as you suggest - are presumably better indicators than scrinmmages in any case. Here is what I could find - sticking to games over the last twelve months: U18 I couldn't find any results against ECNL teams. U17 vs VDA 1-1 (6/16 in ECNL league) vs McLean 1-1 (2/16 in ECNL league) vs Arlington 5-4 (11/16 in ECNL league) U16 vs VDA 1-0 (11/16 in ECNL league) vs BRYC 1-0 (12/16 in ECNL league) vs NCFC 1-4 (4/16 in ECNL league) U15 vs NCFC 1-4 (4/16 in ECNL league) vs Baltimore Celtic 2-0 (6/10 in ECNL league) vs Richmond United 4-0 (1/16 in ECNL league) vs McLean 5-0 (10/16 in ECNL league) vs NCFC Youth 3-2 (6/16 in ECNL league) vs Manhattan Wolves ECNL 5-2 (4/9 in ECNL league) vs Ohio Premier ECNL 6-1 (1/7 in ECNL league) vs McLean 5-0 (10/16 in ECNL league) vs Arlington 2-3 (2/16 in ECNL league) U14 vs Richmond United 0-6 (4/16 in ECNL) vs Charlotte SA 0-4 (6/16 in ECNL) vs Richmond United 4-0 (4/16 in ECNL) U13 Couldn't find any results. So overall that's a 12-5-2 record against ECNL teams with all of the losses coming against ex-DA teams. Looks like they're more than good enough to me.
