It’s been 35 on river road for a couple of years now, since the accident near Pyle middle school. Connecticut also, has been 35 for quite a while now. The speed is reasonable given the density around both roads.
The River Road speed limit was dropped from 45 to 35 due to political pressure. That stretch of River Road (from 495 to Goldsboro) was built for 45+. Notice it's a 2-lane divided highway, and no driveways exit directly onto River but rather onto a service road. It has guardrails also. The death near Whitman (on Pyle Road) was due to a driver going over 100mph and another car took a left turn in front of it. I doubt dropping the limit form 45 to 35 would make a driver doing 100mph slow down. My kids and I now play a game when driving around of finding more dangerous roads in MoCo with a higher speed limit than River Road. Plenty of 1-lane roads with driveways directly onto the road at 45. Heck, look at Bradley Boulevard -- that is 35 also, yet there's a lot more risk there since it's only 1 lane and so many driveways backing onto it.
