OP here. After watching this episode, I am convinced they are something designers talk people into because they like the opportunity to select a decorative vessel sink instead a more utilitarian sink. This designer kept talking about how the sink and fixtures were “like jewelry” for the bathroom. It’s a classic form over function choice. Though they are so impractical that it makes them ugly to me. Agree with PP that they are at least less offensive in a powder room where the sole purpose of the sink is to wash hands. But even there I’d prefer a pedestal. I don’t even like vessel sinks in restaurant bathrooms!
I don't care for 98% of vessel sinks, although I'm sure there are a few in powder rooms that are ok. I really hate pedestal sinks. No, they don't make your room look bigger, they show the plumbing always, and they look cheap. Just...ugh. (Also--can we just stop with the beadboard? So dated and trite)
We had a sink like that in our old house. I hated it because of all the edges and corners -- they gathered grime and sucked to wipe down.
Agree, and I can't imagine someone who thinks a simple bowl vessel sink is hard to clean would want to clean that!
Because there’s always that little tiny space between the bottom of the bowl. All the way around. And PP complaining about pedestal sinks and beadboard as “dated,” that’s like complaining about headlights as dated as old fashioned.
