UVA boosters ruin too many topics in the College and University Discussions by hijacking threads unrelated to UVA and by posting misinformation as to how great UVA is for almost any topics. A separate section will minimize or eliminate conflicts between UVA strivers and others calling them out.[/quote]

I'm from a different country and have never understood why being called a striver is an insult.  Does it not mean to work hard toward a goal you wish to accomplish?  Why is that a bad thing?  Is that not the basis of success?[/quote]

The negative connotation has more to do with the social aspects. Or self-inflating one’s credentials to come across as more than you are.

Nothing wrong with working hard. Just don’t misrepresent yourself.
