As a parent who’s child strived hard to secure admission - I just find all of this is in poor taste. Not that it should matter to the haters. Hope you can fill up on your diet of hate and step away for a few days. If not then keep it coming - if it boosts your self-esteem then so be it.

Can we get an IP ban on the OP? Topping UVA posts, constantly bashing. Their schtick is so tedious...and I’m a UVA fan.
The number declined at all Virginia publics from 179 to 84 (UVA from 81 to 40). I think the appeal of OOS options is in play.
What number? There are three relevant numbers here. The number of students who applied, the number who were admitted, and the number who enrolled. There's no way for anyone here to know the first two with any certainty.
The previous post stands. Wringing your hands over fewer TJ kids getting into any competitive college today compared to a few years ago doesn't make sense. Admissions is more competitive now.
This is attending. It is most relevant from the standpoint of determining whether Virginia (the state, not UVA specifically) is keeping talent in state from one of the top high schools in the country. That number has gone down significantly.

W&M and Vatech are safeties and UVA is an almost safety for TJ so acceptance is not a significant factor. UVA is just not attractive for stem majors.
About 80% of TJ applicants are accepted by UVA.

This comes up often on the forum. I'm also sure this has been addressed before but:
Fact: the published destinations in the TJ student newspaper are self-reported and opt-in.
Fact: Only 60% of the class of 2020 of 453 students chose to report their matriculation choices. Previous classes also roughly the same.
Fact: NOBODY on the forum knows for certain how many kids from TJ enrolled at UVA in total or for that matter, at any other college.
+1 I doubt many TJ kids are rushing to post that they made it to UVA, WM or VT after being able to get into the top high school in the country. I think it's probably a letdown for many of those kids.
So the purpose of going to high school is to go to a highly-ranked college and the reason to attend a highly-ranked college is to make more money?
Must suck to bust your ass and go to one of the best HSs in the US....only to go to a state university. They could have done that from any of the countless mediocre HSs.
That is why numbers to UVA have been going down last several years. They take solace in the fact that TJ grads are usually in the top 5-10% of the collage graduating class and in great shape to go on to PhD programs and medical schools.![]()

UVA boosters ruin too many topics in the College and University Discussions by hijacking threads unrelated to UVA and by posting misinformation as to how great UVA is for almost any topics. A separate section will minimize or eliminate conflicts between UVA strivers and others calling them out.
I'm from a different country and have never understood why being called a striver is an insult. Does it not mean to work hard toward a goal you wish to accomplish? Why is that a bad thing? Is that not the basis of success?
