Every December, lists of "whom to tip for Christmas" are published, and garbage men are always on them.  This has always struck me as being crazy.  Why would I tip my garbage man?  He doesn't do anything special or out of the ordinary for me, I don't know him, and he has a good salary and benefits from the city.  I've never known anyone who actually does this.  I'm not sure how I would do it, either, aside from putting a bunch of money in the trash, which would likely never get to the garbage man, anyway.

If I had milk or newspaper delivery, I might consider tipping if either person ever went above and beyond expectations, but I don't get either one delivered.

I'm not normally super-stingy with tips, but I do find the whole "Christmas tipping" thing to be pretty silly in most cases.[/quote]
