It's not the end of the world. My sister Margaret has a "family nn" and then a "friend nn" because we all called her Marge growing up but at school they always called her Maggie or just Margaret. But our parents didn't really mind -- it was really just a nn and not her name, and they have no issue with Maggie (though it is jarring sometimes to hear people say it). What about what Alexandra wants? At a certain point a kid has a preference for what they want to be called. O's kid may hat Sasha and prefer ALex. So if OP and her husband really hate it they should find a name with a nickname they don't hate or  stop being control freaks. Working on not being control freaks is probably a worthy goal anyway, as parenting will kick your ass if you try to control every freaking thing.[/quote]
