Nadia is GORGEOUS and has a really fun personality. It totally blows my mind that she’s single, seems like guys would put her on the pedestal. She seems like a real catch. Is it really because Indians from Asia are biased against Guyanese? Or is there something else about her that we are not seeing? -Straight white male
It’s not because she is simply from Guyana. India is one country but each state is like its own separate country. Food, community culture, language, customs, etc are very different from state to state. Many people want someone that has the same background so those things will be in common. As the show points out, it’s really a marriage of families. So already having a baseline of commonality for all members of both families makes it a smoother transition and better chances of success. It’s not a hard and fast rule though. That may sound strange but try not viewing it from a purely western perspective of marriage only being between 2 people. Where she is from, there are a ton of people originally from either Gujarat or Punjab and they like to marry fellow Gujaratis or Punjabis and it’s easy because there are a lot in that area to choose from. So throw in not just a different state but a different country and all the differences that might entail. I’m Indian, best friend is Guyanese Indian and my cousin is married to a Trinidadian Indian. Indo-Caribbean is its own culture, food, language, customs.. There are a lot of differences amongst us but much more deeper commonalities than difference.
