OP here. I am now a SAHM of 3 but I used to be a working mom of 2. I would have to request time off and coordinate with DH's work schedule. He needs to take time off at least 3 months in advance so we had to book our vacations way ahead of time.[/quote]

We book vacations 6 months to a year in advance because we are coordinating with family members or need to try and get permits for backpacking at National Parks. You need to book 6 months in advance if you want good camping sites during peak season at pretty much every National Park or if you want backpacking permits for popular spots in National parks. Never mind the cost of tickets and hotels. Heck, we already put in for the lottery at the Inn at the bottom of the Grand Canyon for 2 years from now. I suppose it depends on the type of vacation that you want to take but there are many places that advanced planning is a requirement. My friends who plan Disney Trips are all on top of the 6 month window for restaurant reservations and special shows.[/quote]
