Not completely firmed up because my kids are teens but when they needed childcare, yes, summer plans were all booked by this time.

We know what week we'll vacation w/ my family and just decided on the house rental. Outside of that...

One teen knows she's spending August in marching band camp, two week sleepaway camp is booked, and she needs to work out a couple weeks volunteering at another camp.
Other teen just finished his summer camp counselor application, which is mostly a formality since he's worked at this camp for a couple years and expects to do so again.

DH's family lives in Europe and we go to see them every summer. We booked those flights the moment MCPS announced their 2020-2021 school year calendar (in December I think it was), and still tickets were expensive since it's summer. Then we booked camps as soon as they emailed us they were ready for booking.

Spring break is a trip to see grandma and grandpa. Plane tickets are booked, but we're just lounging around once we're there.

Summer is in progress. I teach, so camps aren't a necessity, but I'm trying to coordinate with friends to get him into a week or two of half day so that we don't hate each other by the end of summer. Vacation is almost done. Got the itinerary from the travel agent--just have to send in the deposit.

Spring break is either a family vacation or a camp for DS, we normally aim for family vacation. Tickets booked, hotels booked. hehehe

We were thinking maybe ski for spring break but were waiting to see how the snow looks this year.

It is a trip to family for us. So the destination is predetermined. The trick is finding something that we are interested in doing in the area and convincing my parents to join us at that location. I love visiting my parents but we enjoy exploring as well so it is about finding the balance. It is not that hard but there is a bit of coordination required.

Camp is booked for the older two, as is our beach vacation. We don't do fancy camps, so it was super easy to schedule. I work FT, and can't wait on this stuff.

I’m having a baby in mid June and the two older ones will be in camp much of the summer. But I also have a two year old so my summer will be crazy. I’m hoping to hire a mother’s helper who can drive.

Disclaimer - one kid applied for a summer program and we won’t hear about it until April. So partially waiting on that.

Not really.

My kids are older teens and in the process of applying for various internships/jobs/summer programs that they won't hear back from for a couple ore months.
Most of them are in other parts of the country, and some of them are in somewhat remote areas so we'd have to help them travel there.
Until we know if they got them or not, we're just in limbo.

We will go to Disney World the last week before school starts (all of the programs they applied for end before that) but that's the only confirmed thing we have.

Yes. You do this before Christmas. What do you mean by “[you] have a good planner”

OP here. I am now a SAHM of 3 but I used to be a working mom of 2. I would have to request time off and coordinate with DH's work schedule. He needs to take time off at least 3 months in advance so we had to book our vacations way ahead of time.

We book vacations 6 months to a year in advance because we are coordinating with family members or need to try and get permits for backpacking at National Parks. You need to book 6 months in advance if you want good camping sites during peak season at pretty much every National Park or if you want backpacking permits for popular spots in National parks. Never mind the cost of tickets and hotels. Heck, we already put in for the lottery at the Inn at the bottom of the Grand Canyon for 2 years from now. I suppose it depends on the type of vacation that you want to take but there are many places that advanced planning is a requirement. My friends who plan Disney Trips are all on top of the 6 month window for restaurant reservations and special shows.

Op here. One of DS’s friends was asking about putting our kids together in camp. A week passed and she already booked the entire summer.

Yeah, they fill up fast. The good ones, anyway. We had our summer planned, camps registered for, flights booked, houses rented, by the end of January.

The camps we use open at different times in February. we do put the first day of registration and time on the calendar.
