https://www.vulture.com/2019/12/taylor-swift-called-out-scooter-braun-during-award-speech.html Warning, it's a looong speech, but very much worth it. She calls out so many people and issues that cut across all industries....yet I am also a little putt off by it. Interested to hear thoughts from others.
Her father, her manager made a bad business deal and that’s why she doesn’t own the rights to her music. It’s not because she’s a woman, it’s because she’s uneducated and didn’t understand what was going on. She should have stayed in school. Sick of listening to her whine. Grow up Tay Tay.
This is sad. It sounds as though she and her dad were hoodwinked into agreeing to something that they did not understand. How would signing her right away to her own music have ever been beneficial to her? Why would any artist agree to that? It's not o.k. to trick people like that.
Isn't her father in attorney? Perhaps she should sue him for making this bad deal on her behalf.
I don't know. I thought he was some sort of executive. I guess my question is, was he qualified to be making these types of long lasting contractual decisions for his daughter. Did he understand that he was signing away her right to ownership of her songs? When did Taylor become aware that she did not own her songs? Honestly, it sounds as though both Taylor and her dad were duped. It seems that if Taylor was a minor at the time these deals were being made that she should have been required to have an attorney who was specialized in these types of deals present to explain it all to her.
