It does matter when people perpetuate stereotypes about ballet or any other activity. Here's why: Those stereotypes and comments just like the ones on GMA are the things people -- especially other kids and tweens-- said for years to a boy at my DC's dance studio. He loved all dance including ballet but felt so bullied about it at school and among "friends" that he quit dance despite having talent. Fortunately, as he got older, he did later decide he no longer cared about misinformed bullies and he returned to dancing. He really did suffer from the comments and stereotyping when he was younger, in a way that no boy doing virtually any other activity would have suffered. When idiot presenters on TV make "harmless joke" cracks, it does add to the overall perpetuation of idiotic ideas that bullies can and do use out here in the real world.[/quote]
