Yes, people here do care. It does matter when people perpetuate stereotypes about ballet or any other activity. Here's why: Those stereotypes and comments just like the ones on GMA are the things people -- especially other kids and tweens-- said for years to a boy at my DC's dance studio. He loved all dance including ballet but felt so bullied about it at school and among "friends" that he quit dance despite having talent. Fortunately, as he got older, he did later decide he no longer cared about misinformed bullies and he returned to dancing. He really did suffer from the comments and stereotyping when he was younger, in a way that no boy doing virtually any other activity would have suffered. When idiot presenters on TV make "harmless joke" cracks, it does add to the overall perpetuation of idiotic ideas that bullies can and do use out here in the real world.

Boycott GMA.

Unforgivable! They all should be fired. It was a stupid and cruel thing to say about any little kid.

TV reporters who cover entertainment or “morning news” are neither real reporters nor are they entertaining. Of course Lara is shallow and an idiot — it’s a prerequisite. I dont know how these dumb shows even still exist.

What is awful is that Lara Spencer/George Stephanopoulos could have made it into such a HUGELY positive story! Like, Prince George’s school sounds incredible for having ballet as part of their curriculum, and that creative movement/dance is so good for children’s development.

From what I understand, former superstar principal dancer with The Washington Ballet, Brooklyn Mack, took ballet to help him with his high school football training. He is amazing! Here he is:

There was a kid at my kid's high school who is a professional dancer and has been since middle school. The kid spends a large amount of time out of school in NYC and going around the country auditioning. The kid has been on television. The kid has had amazing parts. The parents have kept it on the down low forever. They felt like they had to. It is so sad that this kid has amazing accomplishments and it isn't celebrated in our community because of dolts like this.

Some really good comments under Brian Friedman’s Insta post. Especially sad about the boys who give up ballet because other kids make fun of them. My DD’s dance community is all over this story.
