OP, knocking or not, why would MIL enter a bedroom at 6AM to get a vacuum in the first place? Was she planning to vacuum in the house at 6AM? I literally have to know the answer to this because it is so bizarre. Was is the baby in the same room as you and DH, or a separate guest room? I guess I can understand that she would not knock if the baby was in a room by itself, because she might wake the baby up that way. I suppose if she needed something urgently at 6AM, I could understand that she tried to enter a room we’re only the baby was to retrieve it. But how could a vacuum be urgent? This is such a perplexing a story. I would never stay at the home of DH’s relatives or mine. I like my privacy. For that matter, when my kids are older & married, I will offer to put them up in a hotel if they are visiting You have made the right call. But please elaborate on that whole vacuum situation because I really want to know more.
I was in a bedroom with the baby. Still BF so all the more reason to knock--there totally could have been a boob out at 6 a.m.! DH was in another room with our oldest. I awake to no knock, door opening, closet door by the bassinet opening, baby crying. Perfect. Then MIL just started "explaining" that she needed the vacuum at full voice, and wouldn't whisper. Her full-voiced talking and the baby crying woke the others. Have no idea why she "needed" the vacuum. About 10 minutes after the commotion, DH told her we were leaving and not staying there again. I'm so freaking relieved that he was on my side without even the need to discuss it together.
