OP, I decided after an awful visit at my mom’s that we’d be staying in a hotel. Kids love the hotel, has a pool, our own beds, etc. and everyone is happier. I think my mom secretly ya happier too bc she Dan go home when she’s tired, we don’t watch her tv, etc.

I was in a bedroom with the baby. Still BF so all the more reason to knock--there totally could have been a boob out at 6 a.m.!

DH was in another room with our oldest.

I awake to no knock, door opening, closet door by the bassinet opening, baby crying. Perfect. Then MIL just started "explaining" that she needed the vacuum at full voice, and wouldn't whisper. Her full-voiced talking and the baby crying woke the others.

Have no idea why she "needed" the vacuum. About 10 minutes after the commotion, DH told her we were leaving and not staying there again. I'm so freaking relieved that he was on my side without even the need to discuss it together.


Score one for DH! I’m so glad you are done staying there OP! People thought I was nuts to be glad my inlaws retired near us. I said, “I’ll never have to sleep at their house again and vice versa!” It’s been 4 years and so much better! I can take them easier in small doses, I can send DH without me, and I can go home whenever I need to!

Nope, the ruckus would still disturb us/wake us up. And her trying to get in without knocking is still disrespecting me. Instead, she's losing out on us ever staying on her home. Ever. She's done. We're driving away as we speak, and nodded at the Hampton Inn on our way out of town. That's our new New Jersey home away from home.

I have the same problem and thought I was a brat for being annoyed. She had woken up the kids at like 10 pm since the room she set up for them was her computer room. She goes in, bangs around, turns on the computer with the sound on... She also has a knocking problem. Will continue to stand there and talk at me while I'm in a towel after a shower.

We cannot afford a hotel, and they really aren't terrible people and love their grandkids so we don't want to just refuse to stay there. (Though we do choose to stay with my parents instead of his if it's not specifically for their bday or something)

God, as I read this I realize how lucky I am. My IL's have two homes and the guest rooms are far away from their room and the rest of the house. They designed one of the homes so that the guest rooms are almost in a separate building so they don't have to hear crying babies.

You are very lucky your husband supports you staying at a hotel.
