If all goes well from chatting on the website, then you either swap personal email addresses and talk some more that way, or be brave and swap phone numbers and talk over the phone.  Make a written list of at least 30 interview questions to ask over the phone.

If a person from the website still seems appealing after that, then meet in person.  You can meet at Starbucks without the kids if you still want to be cautious before allowing this person to show up at your home and meet your children.
