As anyone who works in the public sector knows, there are minimal-to-zero perks of the job. We pay for our own break-room coffee, our celebrations are potlucked, we have to use annual leave to go on fieldtrips to keep the costs low for kids, we don't have "work laptops" or "work phones" or anything close. And, many of my colleagues are talented enough in many venues that I sometimes wonder why they continue to stay in the realm of public education where their skills could be better-compensated and better respected elsewhere. So, if you have the financial means to give gifts, by all means please do, especially if there is a staff member at your school who you'd really like to "keep." Your gift (whether it's a $20 Amazon card or a handwritten note) could be the deciding factor when it comes time for resume season next year. [/quote]
