CIA analyst. My job is intellectually stimulating and rewarding. I believe in the mission and am legally prohibited from taking any work home. I can’t get fired unless I commit espionage. I love it.
:) Your post makes me laugh. I think it's just not what people picture when they imagine working at the CIA. (People = me!) I used to be a journalist and loved it, so much, even though I basically never got a real weekend or evening away from work. Loved it until I got a micromanaging new boss. I left that publication and went on contract somwehre else for a little less money; I was blissfully happy until the publication abruptly shut down. I then became a freelance journalist and was pretty happy except that I was working all hours of the day and night to make 2/3 of what I'd made on staff. I finally realized that however much I loved the work I couldn't take the instability anymore, and now I have a pretty dull job at a very good nonprofit. I don't love my job the same way I did as I was a journalist but I really appreciate that there's a regular paycheck and it's unlikely the whole staff will get laid off one day out of nowhere.
