My DC is a Freshman in Algebra 2.  For sure, DC will do the full IB Diploma (DC plans to go to university outside the US). From the syllabus it would be very similar you should probably email the teacher at your DC's school for a better idea.  But pre-calc is the heart of high school math, so anyone who isn't strong and math and wants a holding pattern, taking both these classes might be better than doubling up later.  The material covered in pre-calc certainly used to be spread over more than one year, e.g. a class in trig used to be a stand alone class with some algebra review thrown in.  [/quote]
