From the syllabus it would be very similar you should probably email the teacher at your DC's school for a better idea. But pre-calc is the heart of high school math, so anyone who isn't strong and math and wants a holding pattern, taking both these classes might be better than doubling up later. The material covered in pre-calc certainly used to be spread over more than one year, e.g. a class in trig used to be a stand alone class with some algebra review thrown in.

Right, but that scenario would be rare (most BC kids wouldn't be interested in taking stats their senior year, unless they purposefully want to take it easy). But I agree that the stats course is designed with few mathematical prerequisites, which means someone taking stats in lieu of calculus (which is common), may be considered as possibly needing remediation in college, depending on their grades. But colleges would certainly not think that of someone who already took calc early, did well, and is taking stats senior year. They may think the kid isn't challenging themselves enough, which is likely to be the case if they plan on applying to a selective college.

That would be a pretty rare scenario because most BC kids know they wouldn't be challenged enough in AP stats as currently implemented. So most BC kids take whatever class follows that at their school, (usually multivariable), and if their school doesn't offer it, I'd bet that they'd look outside their school for math senior year. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Remedial is a relative term. For someone who has AP credit for BC, it may just mean less likely to hit the ground running in an engineering program, or too lazy to get back to work when the time comes. But, yes, everyone slips if they take time off, and colleges are making judgment calls.

What in the world are you talking about?? Almost all the kids who take BC are precisely the ones who are interested and go on into a science/engineering/math degree.
