1. Birth certificate or valid US passport. Less than half of Americans have a passport. Who knows where their birth certificate is?
2. Original social security card or a W-2 or pay stub. Who still has their original social security card? And if you don't have a job, you don't have a W-2 or pay stub.
3. 2 proof of residential status in MD, like a utiliity bill, copy of tax return, credit card statement. Low-income, homeless, and unemployed people won't have any of these.
You also need $24 and to go to the Maryland MVA during their open hours (8:30-4:30 M-F, 8:30-12pm Saturday). There are 4 locations in MoCo: Gaithersburg, Walnut Hill, White Oak, Glenmont. Only one (Glenmont) is near a metro station.
Yes, all this can be done, but it's a lot of hurdles to go through, especially for an elderly or unemployed person who would need to do all this just so they can vote.

Probably because you were acting like a dick about it.

Maryland is soDemocrat do you really need voter fraud anymore?Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I literally had my id in my hand and I attempted to hand it to her like if you were at passport control and handed your passport to them
Passport control requires your passport. MD election judges do not want them. So keep your germy ID to yourself.

Do you know their DOB and party affiliation too? You do have to answer those questions.
They can challenge you and make you vote provisional. You still get your vote recorded but it goes through an extra verification process.
Because you weren’t challenged. If you were challenged, they’d ask for ID. If you could provide it, they’d let you vote regularly. If not, you would get a provisional. Some voter authority cards say “show ID” and for those people, they are required to show ID.
I don’t get why you care so much? They are told to tell people ID isn’t necessary. Rifling through your stuff may take too long and hold up a line.
Or maybe she was just a little awkward in the way she did it. It’s hard to get sufficient numbers of election judges with early voting. So many are first tiimers.

Because someone will complain of unfair or uneven treatment if the poll worker deviated from the standard procedure.
Consistency is important in elections. Some voters are flagged as needing to show ID and others aren't. The poll worker should follow procedure exactly to ensure fairness for all.
(My father is an election judge in MoCo).
As for why they don't require ID in all cases, that would disenfranchise voters. For example, there are a number of Amish living in MD and they are against photos, so they are unlikely to have photo ID.
