I've seen this happen with kids so many times when I've stopped to let them cross. Idiot drivers can't figure out why on earth all these other cars are stopped *at a freaking crosswalk* and plow through. I've considered pulling my car over to block both lanes when I see a kid trying to cross to keep a-holes like this from killing someone.
This! It happens all the damned time. A responsible driver would note the other stopped drivers and proceed with extra caution.
Yes it happens a lot. And then a lot of times the drivers who are stopped are part of the problem, because they will frantically wave you across like "I AM STOPPED GO AHEAD" when I'm looking for the other lane to ALSO be stopped before we all get killed. I cross a major road with my kids a lot with a crosswalk that has a blinking red light after you push the walk button. People still sometimes almost mow us down. I watch like a hawk when crossing. My kids are still little, but yes I fear the day we are biking and one doesn't listen to my "STOP THERE AND WAIT FOR ME!". That child in the video was inches from being killed. It took my breath away.
