Students should take a common sense approach in creating approximately 10 common app. colleges to apply. If Harvard doesn't have a history of welcoming Asian students, it makes more sense to replace it with schools that do. That said, I am inclined to believe there are great many SLACs that have relatively low Asian acceptances - less to do with discrimination - more to do with the fact that Asians are enamored of Harvard and Ivy League. These are the schools that Asians should be focused if they want to increase their chances at top schools. These schools are just as good, if not better, than Harvard and other Ivy League schools.
In what universe is 22% of enrollees "not welcoming?"
If you did 22% in stocks this year - and S&P cruised to 45% - you lost.
That doesn't answer the question. Perhaps that's why you (or your kid) is having a difficult time with admissions?
????? We had to be strategic when coming up with 10 common app schools when my D applied last year. We limited to 2 Ivy Leagues and focused the balance on top SLACs. As anticipated, she met with greater success with SLACs, including with additional scholarships. Several SLACs became cheaper than state schools. There are schools that welcome Asian students - and even will invest in students' education.
Congratulations to you and your D. I think your thought process is sound. But I still feel the Harvard lawsuit is meritless.
