My friends who post sweaty pics from every workout are people who are/were fat and they want everyone to know they're now one of those cool active people.
Hon, the "cool active people club" is ready to welcome you with open arms whenever you're ready. You don't have to be skinny, or rich, or or have the most fashionable clothes or car - you just have to show up and try.
Look, here comes one now.
Are you bothered because other people exercising puts a spotlight (in your head) to what you should be doing, and you feel insecure about it?
I already exercise and I'm not bothered at all. I made an observation.
Sounds like you could stand to kick it up a notch. You're still miserable and could use the extra endorphins. :)
+1000!
Agreed. My DH is one of those people that likes to post when he works out. And yea, he was and still is fat so he fits right in to nasty PPs categorization. What nasty PP doesn't seem to understand is that DH is working really hard to lose the weight and regain some of his health and he is proud of the work he's putting in. Do you have any idea how hard it is to take yourself into the gym and put in a workout when you're morbidly obese? Do you have any understanding of the fear of judgement (from jack@sses like PP) he feels? He knows people are looking at him, judging him, people have even taken photos of him working out. Hahaha look at the fat sweaty guy! What a LOOOOOOOOSER! But he still goes. And if jerks at the gym get to take photos of him for the purposes of mocking him then he sure as hell is allowed to take a photo of himself and share it with his friends to celebrate what he's doing. Don't like it? Please unfriend him ASAP because you're no friend at all.
There is a guy at my gym, who is morbidly obese. He's a regular - I see him 1-2x a week. He may be there even more, but our "routines" may be different so I don't see him. He is not just chubby, or overweight, or obese - he is definitely morbidly obese. But I think he's amazing to continue showing up and continuing to try and continuing to challenge himself. I've seen him for about a year now, maybe two. I was overweight/obese and lost weight, and am now a regular gym rat, but I am still self conscious many days - I have no idea what it's like to be in his skin, but you're probably right that it's many, many times harder for someone who is morbidly obese - just to step foot in a gym, let alone the workout. I have nothing but respect for him or anyone else who shows up to do the work. He is clearly much stronger in many ways, than so many other people. I think most people think similarly. Maybe there are a few obnoxious judgy mcjudgersons, but I also think the fear of those types of people is more than the reality. Annoyed about poor gym etiquette is one thing (and those people fall into that, just like the "talking on a cellphone" or "don't rerack" people). But judge others for their body types? Nope. You're there, you're working hard, you're awesome. Post whatever you want about yourself. End of story.
