All this discussion about the ASFS walk zone made me realize I may have a problem in the fall. Is ASFS walkable from Lyon village/Clarendon with a stroller? We just moved here and will have a 5mo in September. I’d assumed I’d be walking DC1 to school but now I’m not sure.
Baby carrier for the steps
Or kiss your kid goodbye at the bottom of the steps. Kindergarteners do not need to be walked into the building/to their classroom by mommy and/or daddy.
I wouldn’t do that for K. Maybe a little older.
Well, mine took the bus and survived.
Mine as well. Days that I drove DD, she walked in by herself. At ATS, parents aren't allowed to walk their child into the building, unless there's a good reason (helping them carry in a project, supplies for an event, etc.)
So I don't think people understand that this is the BACK ENTRANCE OF THE SCHOOL. Once you go up the stairs, you have to walk all the way around the school to get to an entrance that isn't locked. At ASFS you aren't allowed into the school either at drop off or pick up, but you also don't drop them off effectively a block away and expect them to get there ok. Maybe for an older kid, but for a kindergartner of course someone would walk them to where an adult would be able to observe them entering the building. Very few people use the back stairs right now, but if a lot of people started to, they would likely need to start putting patrols on that side of the building so kids don't get lost on their way in.
