DH travels almost exclusively internationally and most of the time I have no way to contact him. He's a fed and doesn't get an international cell. When I was 9 months pregnant I got the contact numbers for about 5 people who would try to get a hold of him, but that was it. Why would you need the itinerary? I've been hospitalized 2x when DH was gone and I relied once on a friend and once on my parents to watch my kids/stay with me. DH didn't know until he returned.
You do know that if you are in wifi you can use text, email and facetime audio/video from your phone without needing international cell service right? I don't always turn on international roaming because I can often get by with just wifi access. While I don't feel the need to tell my DH everything I am doing when he or I are traveling, I would let him know if I was hospitalized.
Most carriers also have a pay per use plan for international roaming. It’s $10/day for AT&T. I turn it in for my travels days so I can access things to help me get from the hotel to the airport, but use the hotel WiFi for the days in between. To answer OPs question, I usually screenshot my flight info and text it to DH while I’m at the airport. I don’t usually tell him which hotel I’m at unless there’s something different about it (I usually stay at Hilton properties in the US so nothing exciting there). I did leave the country last week and he didn’t even realize, so I don’t think he’s too worried. He just needs to know I’ll be gone on Monday and home on Wednesday and to feed the dog.
